A few words from Doug on the inception of "PARTea 20ChMix-3" (the soundscape which forms the guts of this monstrosity).

This is a mix of 10 minutes from a 4 hour long sound construction made by Doug Sharp and Larry Heyl for a party they gave in 1976. They assembled an armada of tape recorders, record players, AM/FM and shortwave radios, and made 6 1/2 hours of raw material from about 12 stereo sources, of which about 8 worked at any one time. From the 6 1/2 hours of raw material they prepared 3 stereo mixes each 4 hours long, interspersed with announcements every 20 minutes. The 6 1/2 hours of raw material has survived all these years, and finally made it into digital wonderland this weekend (11-12 Feb 2012). Of the 14 'pieces' of the raw 6 1/2 hour mixes that survived, the first was chopped down to 10 minutes, and the next 9 were cut to 9 minutes, and 1 minute of silence was inserted at the beginning of pairs 2-10. That way, the first minute stands out in bold relief, altogether fitting as it was the first minute to come off the pile of gear way back when. All of the tracks were simply mixed down to stereo, providing the lively sound environment herein recorded etc etc.
